As TTT begins to wrap up, I reflect on what I learned and what I did during this time.
What I accomplished:
- I went to almost every single major station on the MRT map
- Travelled to every night market
- Survived 3 typhoons, 1 earthquake
- Went to every night market in the Taipei Region
- Met incredible people who will be the future of Taiwan's new generation
- Improved my speaking skills in the Taiwanese Dialect
- Saw Jeremy Lin 2x
- Went to 7/11 almost 200x in the last 3 months
What I wished I did:
Learn how to make a local dish
Take more photos to do self-reflection of individuals that I met
Climb every mountain in the Taipei District
See more cities outside of Taipei
I went on countless adventures to visit cat cafes, shopping districts, eat famous foods. As much as it is an educational journey, it is important to experience and immerse into your surroundings. My favourite adventures were getting fake eyelashes with P, going to DanSui and realizing it was where my dad grew up and the best is getting lost constantly. Getting lost is the best because you find the small treasures and see what is in the local culture. I think the self-realization of travelling alone was an important trait I learned as well. It is not necessary to go with people all the time and it is more important to learn how to get up, stand up. I learned that I will always be adventurous and I am thankful for this trait.
I am so thankful for this opportunity and I would have never been able to afford such an experience. Flights to Taiwan are very expensive and finding an internship on my own is also difficult. With the help of the Taiwanese government and the HSSA, my dreams have been made possible. I am excited to bring back what I learned and utilize it into the Canadian System.
