Part of working under Taipei Medical University requires me to participate in a conference to present with my colleagues in 5 minutes what type of work we are doing. J, P and I worked hard on our presentation slides to make it look great as Peter wanted us to win and be creative with our work. I love presenting and speaking in front of a crowd so I knew I would have fun with it.

Many of our fellow colleagues at TMU work on research projects involving biological and medical science backgrounds. There are only a handful of us doing work that takes upon a more sociological approach to health which is relevant towards my bachelor’s degree in health sciences at the School of Health Studies. Listening to them and my friends go through their presentations, I found it so fascinating on their experience because it is so different than ours. One of my roommates is actually working on lab mice and taking out their hearts. We are also in charge of grading each presentation among the judges as well so it was important to pay attention. There was one group that stood out very strong-coincidentally it was the other office that I applied for but it was my 2nd choice. Part of me wished I ended up at that office because they had really amazing experiences but it was interesting because he mentioned he had chosen AHLA as his 2nd choice too. I don't regret my time with AHLA though and am happy that I got to learn what they did at their organization.

It was a super long day of presentations as our group is large at TMU. During our presentation, we went through what we learned, challenges, objectives, the usual and we actually won 3rd prize which was super awesome. We got a USB and a notebook as congrats. Something I didn’t know though until after the presentations were that I am louder than I think I am. We were near the end and as a small individual; I often projected a loud voice to make myself present. The microphone died on us halfway and so I just did my usual voice which apparently woke up everyone. Haha! I felt so bad because they said I projected very loudly but it worked to my advantage because everyone definitely woke up.

I am happy we won a place and it makes me want to work harder. I would love to get recognized at the end of the year banquet with the whole program. I can only strive to do my best. But – we shall see. It takes a team to get there and we have lots to work on.
